How To Stay Productive & Sane While Juggling Work & Business

There’s no shame in working full-time while you build your health coach business on the side. In fact, that’s what most people do, myself included.

I often tell people this was my most productive time, as I was forced to prioritize and be really efficient with my time. If you use your time wisely and strategically, you’ll eventually be able to make the leap from part-time to full-time! But don’t rush it…for some it may take a couple of years, and that is OK. Life is not a sprint.

Here are some tips to help you stay organized, focused, and productive.

6 Tips To Stay Focused & Productive On Your Side Hustle (Without Burning Out)

Reframe Your Mindset: As with all things, mindset comes first. If you feel that juggling your 9-5 with your health coaching business is hard or impossible, it will indeed feel that way.

But, if instead you view building your business as fun, exciting, heck even exhilarating, well then, guess who will be super pumped to work mornings, evenings, and weekends on their business?

In fact, someone will probably have to pry you away from the computer. If you’re not super pumped and motivated to build this business, then it’s not the right business for you.

Prioritize Daily: Once your mindset is in the right place, the next step is to prioritize. Every. Single. Day.

At the beginning of the month or week, set your overarching priorities - like launch your website, get a book deal, or sign on 4 new clients a month, and then work backward to figure out the exact steps you have to take each day to get there.

Work primarily on those steps. Everything else can wait.

Every day I like to use this planner to set my top 3 priorities. Using it has been a game-changer for me, and I bet it will be for you, too. Having priorities that we are more likely to accomplish and stick to will lead to more success overall.

Automate As Much As Possible: When juggling life, work, and your side hustle, you’ll have a lot to accomplish in a limited amount of time. So, automate as much as you can, everywhere in your life.

In life, that could mean ordering groceries online or a meal delivery service, sending your laundry out, hiring a weekly cleaning service, or really anything that frees up your time so you can devote more of it to your business.

In business, that could mean having email autoresponders and an email funnel set up, using scheduling software so people can automatically book (and pay for) appointments without endless back and forth via email, or hiring a contractor on Upwork to do any regular tedious but necessary tasks, that you really don’t need to be doing.

Set Your Work Hours & Stick To Them: Building a business is no easy feat, and it requires a lot of time. So, in order to grow your business, you’ll have to devote a decent amount of time to it.

Schedule what hours you plan to work on your business into your calendar and stick to them.

Just as you wouldn’t skip out on your 9-5 to go to brunch, don’t play hooky from your dream job to do the same! Make time for weekly social activities, but work them around your work hours.

Outsource As Much As Possible: As an entrepreneur, you will have to wear many hats and be good at many things, but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself.

You need to focus on the things you do best and which will bring you the most income (health coaching and sharing your knowledge).

All the other stuff - like graphic design or administrative tasks - can be outsourced. Upwork is a great place to find freelancers in every field.

Should I name my health coaching business after myself?

Chunk Your Time & Schedule Everything: After you’ve prioritized, schedule your specific tasks into your calendar. I am a huge fan of chunking time.

Essentially, it just means that you do similar tasks at the same time. So for example, I advise my Bootcamp students to chunk their editorial and social media content development.

So, that means sitting down once a month to map out their content for the coming month. Then, they choose 1 chunk of time to write all their blog posts for the coming month, and another chunk of time to shoot all the photos for it.

Then, they can schedule everything for the coming month, and put it on auto-pilot. This will make life so much easier, and ensure you never miss a post.
