Health Coach Business Setup Checklist

How To Set Up A Health Coach Business

Lay a solid foundation for your health coach business by getting your legal, financial, and digital affairs in order using this Health Coach Business Setup Checklist.

Health Coach Business Setup Checklist

  • Register your health coach business: Look up the rules for establishing a business where you live. Rules vary by state and country. In the US, a sole proprietorship or LLC are most common. Google the pros and cons of each. Then, consult with a lawyer or accountant for legal/tax considerations for each so you can make the best decision for you. Personally, with my health coach business setup, I started with a sole proprietorship initially, as it was easiest and least expensive, but eventually turned it into an LLC, which is a lengthier process and more expensive, but worth it for the added liability protection.

  • Get a Business Bank Account: Keep your personal and business money separate. Get a business checking and savings. Many banks have free accounts for small businesses. You will need to register your health coach business first before you can establish this account.

  • Get a Business Credit Card: All your health coach business expenses should be purchased on this card. Don’t use this for personal purchases. I personally use and recommend this one, which gives you cash back. Yipee!

  • Download the Expensify App on your phone: Use the Expensify App (it’s FREE) to track all your business expenses. It allows you to take a photo of receipts and write a note about what its for, and even categorize it. This is a HUGE time saver when tax time comes. Get into the habit of recording every. single. purchase. you. make. As soon as you get a receipt, add it to Expensify.

  • Set up Your Website: Your website is your salesperson that never sleeps. Make it look good. As a new health coach, I highly recommend using a website builder to create it, as opposed to hiring a developer and designer to create it from scratch. It’s quicker, much more affordable, and it will probably look 10x better.

In fact, I built this entire site myself on this website builder!

My main site was built on Wordpress by a design and development team, and it is a money pit. It cost me thousands of dollars to create the initial site, and I have to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars more every time I want to make a small tweak.

But with this website builder, which costs just $18 a month, and less when you use my PARTNER10 code for 10% off, I can do everything myself, for a fraction of the price. The templates are beautiful and so easy to use - even if you don’t know anything about design, you can create a gorgeous, professional website for your health coach business in an afternoon. This entire site took me about 4 hours to make.

In my Health Coach Business Bootcamp, I teach you exactly how to build not just a beautiful, but also an effective website, that turns visitors into clients and customers. You’ll learn how to craft copy that converts, organize (and feel confident at!) a professional photo shoot, develop your brand image and voice (whether DIY or by working with a designer), strategically laying out your home page, and more.

  • Secure Your Social Media Handles: Grab your social media handles on every platform - even if you don’t intend to use them - so no one else can squat on them. Ideally find a handle that is the same across all platforms (For Example: @slimwithsusie on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, etc.)

Now it’s time to check off each of these steps in the health coach business setup checklist. If you need help figuring out your niche, strategy, health coach business model and marketing, check out my Health Coach Business Bootcamp, which is the ultimate blueprint for creating a successful health coaching business.
